It’s been several years now since my Golden Retriever puppy (Honey) bounded into my heart and home. I had grown up as a child with several adopted rescue dogs who were as close as siblings, but this was the first time I became responsible for the wellbeing of my own dog. It was also my first experience with a pedigree dog.
I treasured what all our dogs had brought to my own life, their calming presence, unconditional love and of course their waggy welcome as they are always happy to see you, and in return I wanted to ensure the best possible conditions for my dog to thrive.
Taking this responsibility seriously, I prepared for her arrival by researching all her doggy needs from vets, dog training, dog grooming, dog food, dog kennels, pet insurance etc. even before she pitter pattered into my life. Naturally I began trawling the internet for all the advice and guidance I could find. I found an abundance of sites, but not an abundance of free, detailed, guidance and advice. In truth I ditched the internet for the more traditional learning tool – books.
Having invested lots of time and energy ensuring my dog’s wellbeing I wanted to share my journey, learning curve and education with you. Please note; I am not a qualified dog professional, I am simply a dog owner who is genuinely concerned with the wellbeing of dogs and their owners. I want to share my experience and knowledge with you in order to make your life as a dog owner as easy, smooth and stress-free as possible.
To add to my experience and knowledge I have teamed up with the most caring, qualified vet to also provide you with professional veterinarian advice; Frances Harvey MVB MRCVS, based in Slane, Co. Meath.
As you paw your way through this site, I hope you find it informative and inspirational and that it helps you and your "best friend" to lead a happy, balanced life together.
